Gellideg Youth Project

Youth Club operates from St. Lukes Church, Gellideg and is available to all children living within the Cyfarthfa Ward. There are some fabulous activities taking place and the children attending have a great time.The staff would love to welcome new faces!

Our Youth Workers provide sessional workshops for young people which encourage participation and the acquisition of skills, and knowledge, and the understanding of the values needed to identify, advocate and pursue their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as members of groups and their communities.

Youth Club operates on the following days:


Monday - 11+ 6pm to 9pm
Tuesday - 8-11yrs 6pm to 9pm
Wednesday- 11+ 6pm to 9pm
Thursday- 11+ 6pm to 9pm

Drug and Alcohol Awareness
Sexual Health
First Aid
Fire Safety
Food Hygiene

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award has been set up which allows boys and girls to develop their life skills and also provides opportunities for them to explore themselves and the environment around them.


As part of the overall award the young people participate in workshops which range from basic cooking, camping skills, food hygiene, first Aid, Team Building, Map reading and survival skills. Also they must commit to volunteering within the community aswell as physical taking part in physical activities on a regular basis.

The young people are able to::

  • Show a clear understanding of the importance of basic survival skills as well as an increased knowledge of the importance of Health and Safety and Food Hygiene.
  • Demonstrate basic food preparation and cooking skills using the outside environment and camp stoves.
  • Apply team building techniques and social skills to work together and successfully pitch tents.
  • Demonstrate map and navigation techniques as well as route planning.

Youth Forum

A Youth Forum has recently been developed in the Cyfarthfa Ward, to date there are 8 children and young people between the ages of 8-25 years of age who sit on the Youth Forum. The Youth Forum gives children in the Cyfarthfa Ward the opportunity to actively participate in the development and improvement of services for young people in the community in which they live, they have been involved in setting rules for youth club, have met with the Local Policing Team to develop a junior PACT which addresses crime and safety issues and also worked with the healthy living centre to introduce healthy opportunities into the Youth Provisions.
