Gellideg is a social housing estate in the north of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. Built in the 1940's, the area suffered with the decline of manufacturing, and by the 1990's we were experiencing high levels of unemployment and social exclusion.
The Gellideg Foundation Group was formed in 1998 by 6 mothers on the estate who wanted to create better life for our children. Over the years we have grown into a community group and registered charity, employing over 35 people, delivering programmes across the themesof health, youth, education and the environment. Over 100 local residents volunteer their time to provide activities for all ages, across the ward.

Today we remain a grassroots organisation, valuing the potential within our community and believing the future is ours to create. We continue to ensure that every resident in the area has the opportunity to realise their full potential thus helping young people, the community and local business to prosper-retaining created wealth in the community.
The Gellideg Foundation Group places people at the heart of project delivery. Our primary aim is work with the community, building individual and group capacity in the process of regeneration-improving the quality of life for all residents. This is achieved through a number of projects based within the community flats, church hall and various other venues with the local community. Key to each project is an enabling process which builds on the skills of the community.
